Guidelines for hiring the right contractor

We have all heard the horror stories about hiring the "wrong" contractor. Whether it be your neighbor, work colleague, or family member we hear stories about people hiring companies that take money deposits and never show up to perform the work. Or perform very little work and disappear without fulfilling the scope of work that needs to be done. Well don't get stuck in this dilemma hire the right contractor. I have put together a list of simple criteria to look for when hiring someone. This will give you simple tips to establish credibility and take some of the guesswork out of searching for a reputable company.

- Being in business for at least 5 years and being local Houston based company (Being able to provide references if needed)

- Being a member of the Better Business Bureau (Having a good rating, & a good track record of efficiently handling complaints.)

- Good online reviews (Yelp, Angie's List, Google) these are a few to look for

- Being insured (With a High Limit General Liability Insurance) proves you are equipped to handle the job and will protect your customer's property

-Talking with neighbors (a contractor doing work in a neighborhood speaks volumes. Ask them about there experience; if they were great to deal with, priced right, and delivered a good product.)
